Twenty six geo-scientists and technologists of India have been selected for the National Mineral Awards 2003. Union Minister of Mines, Shri Sis Ram Ola will present here the awards to these scientists for their outstanding contribution in the field, in a function on March 23, 2005. Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao, Minister of State for Coal & Mines will be the guest of honour.
Out of 26 scientists, eleven are from Geological Survey of India, 6 from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, two from National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad and one each from R.K. Marble Private Limited, Udaipur, Associated Stone Industries Limited, Ramganjmandi, Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad, Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, National Institute of Oceanography, Goa, University of Delhi and Reliance Industries Limited, Navi Mumbai.
Since its inception in 1966, till 2002, 453 geo-scientists have received the coveted National Mineral Awards and 5 geo-scientists have received the National Mineral Awards for excellence. At present, the scheme covers broadly 14 earth science disciplines. The awardees will get Rs. one lakh each with a trophy, a certificate and a citation. The National Mineral Award for Excellence under the scheme is conferred on an eminent geo-scientist for his life time achievements which carries Rs. three lakh with a trophy, a certificate and a citation. For the year 2003, no body has got the Award for Excellence.
