The Union Government has cleared a project for setting up of a National Institute at Amritsar for research work on Guru Granth Sahib. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has given its approval to support establishment of an autonomous institution as National Institute of Studies in Shri Guru Granth Sahib, at the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar at an estimated cost of Rs. 23.83 crores. The project was formulated by the University in consultation with eminent scholars on the subject. The proposal was approved by the UGC on the basis of the recommendations of the Committee consisting of eminent experts.
This information was given by Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Culture, Shri S. Jaipal Reddy in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
