The Planning Commission has accorded approval in-principle to a project proposal titled National Automotive Testing and R & D Infrastructure Project (NATRIP) for setting up world class automotive testing and research and development infrastructure in the country with an estimated investment of approximately Rs. 1700 crore.
The project envisages setting up of two new automotive testing and R&D infrastructure centres in the northern and southern hubs of the automotive industry, upgradation of existing infrastructure located at Automotive Research Association of India, Pune & Vehicle Research Development Establishment, Ahmednagar and creation of world class Proving Ground. The Technical Committee constituted by the Department of Heavy Industry is in the process of selecting appropriate sites for the project in the country from a number of options including those in Andhra Pradesh.
Existing testing infrastructure at Automotive Research Association of India, Pune would be modernized, as part of the project, to meet the emerging mandatory testing requirements of the automobile industry.
This information was given by the Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Shri Sontosh Mohan Dev in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.
