model demonstration houses under vambay to come up in 11 states

11 States have been identified for the purpose of construction of Model Demonstration Houses using cost effective building materials and technology under Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana (VAMBAY). These are Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Tripura, Orissa, Uttaranchal, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Manipur. Cost effective building materials and technology developed by BMTPC, a PSU under the Ministry of Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation will be used in the project. Central subsidy to the extent of 50% project cost subject to the ceiling limits will be given for these model houses.

VAMBAY is a centrally sponsored scheme to facilitate construction and upgradation of dwelling units for slum dwellers and to provide healthy and enabling urban environment through community toilets under Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan. Central subsidy to the extent of 50% of the project cost subject to the cost ceiling of Rs. 60,000 for mega cities; Rs. 50,000 for metropolitan cities and Rs. 40,000 for other cities is given under the scheme. Since its inception in 2001, a central subsidy of Rs. 752.92 crore have been released for construction of 350084 dwelling units and 49312 toilets. HRK/SK
