kayamkulam power project

The foundation stone for second stage (1950 MW) of the National Thermal Power Corporation’s Kayamkulam Thermal Power Station was laid on 16th February, 2005. This information was given in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today by the Union Minister of Power, Shri P.M. Sayeed.

The project has been renamed as “Rajiv Gandhi Combined Cycle Power Project” with effect from 16.02.2005. The project is based on LNG/Natural Gas. Fuel tie-up for the project is presently in process. The estimated cost of the project is Rs.6600 Crores approximately. The benefits from the project are envisaged in the 11th Plan period.
