The Home Minister Shri Shivraj Patil inaugurated the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) of the Home Ministry here today. The Centre will provide the latest communications facilities to the Ministry for monitoring and directing officials throughout the country during times of crisis.
Inaugurating the Centre, Shri Patil said that this facility would help the government manage disasters more effectively. Information form various parts of the country would be quickly received and remedial actions can now be taken more speedily. The Home Mnister also stressed that the modernization process would continue.
The IOC has an Operations Room, 2 Control Rooms (Internal Security and Disaster Management) and a communications room with state of art equipment and essential accessories. The IOC will have multiple site video and audio conferencing and modern projector system including map display system for smooth information flow. Each Control Room is being manned by an officer and support staff. Both will have a number of telephones, satellite radios and VHF communications equipment. Facility to monitor TV news channels is also available. In the Communications equipment room, there is an IDRN web server and space for 6 additional servers.
