Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has reported that the draft Master Plan for Delhi-2021 (MPD-2021) has specifically incorporated the need for conservation of Water bodies, through measures of recharging of ground water both in the context of environment and the provision of water supply as an element of physical infrastructure.
According to the projections made in the draft MPD-2021, the estimated water requirement for NCT of Delhi for the year 2021 would be to the tune of 1150 mgd. Various measures proposed in the draft-MPD-2021 to augment the water supply include:
Recycling of treated waste with separate lines for potable and recycled water.
Ground water recharging through rain water harvesting, conserving water bodies
and controlling ground water extraction.
Introducing strict pollution control measures for Yamuna River, major drains and
canals for improvement of quality of river water.
Introducing separate water lines in new areas for potable water and water use for
washing, water coolers, etc. Checking of unrecorded usage through illegal tops
and water connections to minimize loss of treated water.
Augmentation of capacity of existing water treatment plants/identification of new
plants.
This information was given by Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Urban Development in his written reply to the question raised by Shri Vijay J. Darda in Rajya Sabha today.
