iimc alumni seek i&b minister’s support to launch alumni global net

Tuesday, March 22, 2005

A group of foreign alumni of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) recently met the Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Culture, Shri S. Jaipal Reddy in connection with the launch of the IIMC alumni global net. They sought the Minister’s support in their endeavour and briefed him on the global net idea. They said that once the service was fully operational it would help journalists source stories from each other. Shri Reddy appreciated the idea as it could help develop closer media linkages between India and the developing countries.

The foreign journalists all from developing countries were in New Delhi to reforge their links with their alma mater and put through the idea of a global net which would bring more than 850 journalists from 81 countries and 2900 Indian media professionals who have passed out from the portals of IIMC on a common platform on the web, in cooperation with and support of the Institute. The group members made it to New Delhi for the very brief “home-coming” entirely on their own efforts.
