In the National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP), the Government has declared to revamp the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). Towards this objective, the Government has dissolved the KVIC with effect from 14 October 2004 and also set up a ten member Expert Committee.
The annual turnover and employment in Khadi and Village Industries sector during the year 2003-04 were Rs. 11575.21 crore and 71.19 lakh persons respectively.
This information was given by the Minister of Small Scale Industries and Agro & Rural Industries , Shri Mahabir Prasad in a written reply to a question by Ms. Hema Malini in Rajya Sabha today.
