At the initiative of Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Minister for Rural Development, the Government has now relaxed Section – 2 of the Forest Conservation Act, 1980 for diversion of forest land to the rural land activities like schools, dispensary, hospital, electric & telecommunication lines, drinking water, water harvesting structures, minor irrigation canal, communication posts and police establishments etc.
Providing details of the same, Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh stated that some of these works are permissible under the Sampoorna Gramin Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) and the National Food for Work Programme (NFFWP) and hence the implementing agencies under both these programmes need to be sensitized in this regard.
