The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CEEA) today approved the proposal for extension of the World Bank Assisted Integrated Child Development Services Project in Andhra Pradesh by 18 months i.e. from April 1, 2004 to September 30, 2005.
CCEA has also authorised the Department of Women and Child Development to reallocate the savings, if any, in any component of the Project to some other component such as civil works, procurement of goods & equipments like Adult/Baby weighing Scales, Outdoor-indoor Play Materials and Computers at the block level, supply of IFA/De-worming Tablets to Adolescent Girls/Pregnant Women, etc., depending upon the requirements of the State.
CCEA approved enhancement of Project outlay from Rs.392.75 crore to Rs.431.81 crore and thereby the Government of India share from Rs.79.25 crore to Rs.86.36 crore.
The project will improve the nutritional and health status of children in the age group of 0-6 years; lay the foundation for proper psychological, physical and social development of the child; reduce the incidence of mortality, morbidity, malnutrition and school drop-out; achieve effective coordination of policy and implementation amongst the various departments to promote child development. It will also enhance the capability of the mother to look after the normal health and nutritional needs of the child through proper nutrition and health education; and will result in corresponding reduction in budget for ICDS.
