The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has ordered an enquiry into the helicopter crash that took place in UP today. Joint DGCA, Shri P.K. Chattopadhyay has been appointed the Inspector of Accidents to head the enquiry.
The ill-fated Helicopter VTVYJ type E-120 of India Flying Safe Aviation Ltd. (Jindal Group) took off from Chandigarh at 11.32 IST today and landed at Rajinder Park Helipad to pick its passengers enroute to Delhi. It reported over Sarsawa ATC near Saharanpur in UP at 12.17 IST. ATC asked the copter to report when he was 15 meter out of Sarsawa, after which the copter lost contact.
The crash site is reported to be 25 kms. from Tehsil Nakud.
The pilot of the ill-fated copter was Col. T.S. Chauhan, who had been checked and certified by Eurocopter in December, 2004. Of the 4 passengers of the ill-fated copter, Shri O.P. Jindal and Shri Surinder Singh (S/o Ch. Bansi Lal) along with the pilot of the aircraft lost their lives. Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav and Shri Ved Goel are injured and have been hospitalized.
