The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today approved a scheme for computerization of District and Subordinate Courts with a project cost of Rs.384.53 crore, in a phased manner, as a 100 per cent Centrally Funded Scheme. The allocation of funds will be:
2004-05 Rs. 103.05 crore
2005-06 Rs. 214.00 crore
2006-07 Rs. 67.48 crore
3475 District and Subordinate Courts in the States and Union Territories will be computerized in the current financial year, while the remaining 9873 District and Subordinate Courts will be computerized in the subsequent two years, before the closing of financial year 2006-07.
This will help the judges in getting facilities to access precedents, legal & judicial database, information about cases adjourned on a given day, disposal rate, etc. The Registry officials will get better facilities to record judgements & orders. Thus filing will be simplified, statistical statements can be generated easily, and notices & cause lists can be generated automatically.
NIC will be the implementing agency for the project.
