committee of ministers on dalit affairs

The Government has constituted a Committee of Ministers on Dalit Affairs. The thirteen-member Committee will over-see in a consolidated manner the effective pooling together and implementation of different programmes/schemes under various Ministries/Departments that relate to the welfare and development of Dalits. It will identify the gaps in the existing schemes and help develop new programmes for eliminating the gaps.

The Members of the Committee are :

1. Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Minister of Defence

2. Shri Arjun Singh, Minister of Human Resource Development

3. Shri Sharad Pawar, Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Consumer Affairs,Food and Public Distribution.

4. Shri Shivraj V. Patil, Minister of Home Affairs.

5. Shri Ram Vilas Paswan, Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers and Minister of Steel

6. Shri Mahavir Prasad, Minister of Small Scale Industries and Minister of Agro & Rural Industsries

7. Shri H. R. Bhardwaj, Minister of Law & Justice

8. Shri Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Minister of Rural Development

9. Shri Priyaranjan Dasmunshi, Minister of Water Resources

10. Smt. Meira Kumar, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment

11. Shri K Chandrasekhar Rao, Minister of Labour & Employment

12. Shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission

13. Shri Suresh Pachouri, Minister of State in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions and Minister of State in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

This was stated by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Smt. Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
