Coal linkage in respect of core sector consumers is granted by an inter-Ministerial Standing Linkage Committee functioning under Ministry of Coal in consultation with concerned Central Ministries based on quantitative / qualitative requirement as projected by the industrial units, availability of coal and other transport logistics. Linkages for non-core sector, which earlier used to be granted by non-core sector linkage committee of Coal India Limited (CIL), has been dispensed with in line with the CIL's Board's decision in June, 2001.
