Shri Charles Correa has been appointed as the Chairman of Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC). The other three members of the newly constituted DUAC are Shri Jasbir Sawhney, Mohammad Shaheer and Smt. Narayani Gupta. Shri P.K. Pradhan, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Urban Development will be the official member of this body. They will have tenure of 3 years, with provision for reappointment for a second term.

The Delhi Urban Art Commission has been committed in 1974 to observe, develop and maintain the aesthetic quality of urban and environmental design within Delhi. The Commission advises Central Government in the matter of preserving, developing and maintaining the aesthetic quality of urban and environmental design within Delhi and it also provides advice and guidance to any local body in respect of any project of building/engineering operations or any development proposal which affects the skyline or the aesthetic quality of surroundings or any public amenity. It scrutinizes, approves, rejects or modifies proposals relating to; development of district centers, civic centers; areas earmarked for administrative buildings of government, land for residential complexes, public parks and public gardens; redevelopment of areas in the jurisdiction of New Delhi Municipal Committee (NDMC) including Connaught Place Complex, its environs, Central Vista, the entire Bungalow area of Lutyens Delhi. Also plans, architectural expressions and visual appearance of new buildings in the centers, areas, parks and gardens including selection of models or statues and fountains therein; redevelopment of areas in the vicinity of areas of historical importance; conservation, preservation and beautification of monumental buildings, public parks and public gardens, under-passes, over-passes and regulations of street furniture and hoardings also come the scrutiny of this Commission. It is the duty of every local body to refer all such proposals to the Commission for scrutiny and the decision of the Commission is binding on them. However, in case of a dispute between the Commission and a local body, the matter will be decided by the Central Government.
