CBI ARRESTS INCOME TAX OFFICIAL WHILE ACCEPTING RS ONE LAKH BRIBE

CBI arrested an Income Tax officer (ITO) of Pune while demanding
and accepting a bribe of Rs. One Lakh from a complainant, a businessman
dealing with poultry. The complainant had filed his IT returns with the
ITO's office and the accused officer was scrutinising it. He has
demanded Rs. One Lakh to settle the matter. On receiving a written
complaint and after proper verification, CBI laid a trap and caught the
ITO red handed accepting bribe of Rs. One Lakh.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988
and searches of residence of the accused are in progress.
