In order to strengthen telecast facilities in J&K and other States/UTs, 20 transmitter projects including two in J&K are expected to be completed during the next two years. Besides, 9 LPTs are ready for commissioning. All India Radio proposes to install a 200 kW MW transmitter at Kargil. This is in addition to five 1 kW MW transmitters which are technically ready at Nyoma, Diskit, Drass, Tiesuru and Padum. During 10th Five Year Plan, a 10 kW FM transmitter (additional channel) has also been proposed at Srinagar.
The entire country, including J&K is covered by Doordarshans Ku-Band transmission service, which carries a bouquet of 33 TV and 12 Radio Channels. These signals can be received with the help of a small sized dish receive system. In addition, DD terrestrial signals are available to 90.7 per cent population of the country, including 94.8 per cent of the population in J&K. Radio terrestrial coverage in FM/MW mode is available to 99.13 per cent population in the country, including to 99 per cent population in J&K. In addition, the entire country is covered by Short Wave Radio Signals.
