About 94,000 employment opportunities have been provided in Jammu & Kashmir from August 15, 2003 to February 28, 2005. Stating this in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today the Labour and Employment, Shri K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that as per the then Prime Ministers announcement in Jammu & Kashmir on April 19, 2003, a programme for creation of one lakh employment and self employment opportunities has been undertaken in the State for two years from August 15, 2003. He said the number of graduate and post-graduate job seekers on the live register of employment exchanges in Jammu & Kashmir as on December 31, 2002 was around 31,000. All of them were not necessarily unemployed, the Minister added.
Shri Rao said that the Prime Minister, during his visit to Jammu & Kashmir in November last year, announced a reconstruction plan for this State involving an outlay of approximately Rs. 24,000 crore. The Plan, among other things will also provide a thrust on employment and income generation in various sectors.
