The latest Flash Report of the Project Monitoring Division, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation for January 2005 giving the status of total 333 projects, each costing Rs.100 crore and above, says that 67 projects are proceeding as per schedule and 16 ahead of schedule. While 131 projects are delayed, 99 continue without dates of commissioning. 20 projects which did not have original date of commissioning have now been assigned new dates of completion. Of the 131 delayed projects, 130 have been given new dates of completion.
The Status Report also points out that 287 projects with original dates of commissioning, have got approval for revised project costs amounting to Rs.201234.08 crore, with cost-overrun being Rs.18260.65 crore i.e. a 10 per cent increase. 46 projects which have been assigned new dates of completion and also got sanction for revised project costs, total Rs.48117.34 crore i.e. Rs.2648.43 crore cost-overrun, a rise of 5.8 in percentage terms. Over Rs.95858.76 crore have so far been spent on the 333 projects, with the over all cost escalation being Rs.20909.08 crore, nearly 10 per cent up.
Six projects, one each in Power and Shipping & Ports and 3 in Road Transport and Highways were completed during the month under report. One project i.e. the Tambaram-Dindivanam National Highway Development package has been frozen due to unspecified reasons after incurring an expenditure of Rs.23.01 crore. The project was estimated to cost over Rs.375.00 crore.
