During the 10th Five Year Plan (2002-07) a target of 4 lakh new employment opportunity for the urban poor by way of setting up of micro/group enterprises has been fixed under Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY). It has also been decided to impart skill training to 5 lakh persons under this scheme. The total 10th Five Year Plan allocation for this programme is Rs. 541 crore.
Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana which was launched in 1997 envisages provision of gainful employment to urban unemployed and under employed poor through setting up of self employment venture by those who have studied up to IXth standard or by providing wage employment by utilizing their labour for construction of socially and economically useful public assets. The scheme is funded in the ratio of 75:25 between the centre and the state.
