The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has taken a number of initiatives for promoting quality in technical education. The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) accredits programmes in technical institutions based on stringent norms and standards. So far, about 1700 programmes have been accredited. Further, grants are released to deserving institutions for upgrading the infrastructure and replacing obsolete equipment under the Modernization and Removal of Obsolescence Scheme (MODROBS) and to encourage research in technical education under the Research Promotion Scheme (RPS). Many faculty development schemes are offered by the AICTE. To encourage use of internet and digital library, schemes like INDEST, DELNET and ERNET are offered.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shri M.A.A Fatmi in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
