Fourteen Central Sector projects costing Rs.100 crore and above, have reported additional delays in the range of 1 to 31 months during January 2005, over the completion dates stated in the previous month. This is disclosed in the Flash Report of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation for the month of January 2005. Of the 14 projects, 6 belong to the Road Transport sector, 4 to Petroleum, 2 to Railways and one each in Health and Family Welfare and Shipping & Ports. 219 projects have not reported any additional delay.
In Road Transport, 6 National Highway Development projects slipped by one month during the period under report, though all of them are poised for completion soon. In the Railways, the two projects i.e. Electrification of Ernakulam-Trivandrum section and Freight Operations Information System, have slipped by two and 18 months due to unspecified reasons.
Four projects in petroleum slipped between 1 to 31 months, also due to unspecified reasons. In Health and Family Welfare, the setting up of the National Institute of Biologicals delayed by 2 months while the establishment of vessel traffic service in the Gulf of Kutch delayed by one month in the shipping and ports sector.
The maximum delay of 31 months is reported by IOR Lakwa-Lakhmani project of the ONGC, followed by 18 months additional delay in the commissioning of Freight Operations Information System in the Railways.
The Ministry took up 12 new projects for monitoring during the month under report. Of these, 10 belong to Telecom and 2 to steel sector. Six projects, one each from power and shipping & ports and three from Road Transport were taken off its monitor after their completion, while the Tambaram-Dindivanum National Highway project frozen, due to unspecified reasons.
