The Budget 2005-06 has kept a lump sum provision for the food processing projects in the North-East. The allocation is Rs. 103 crore as against Rs. 62 crore in the Budget 2004-05.

There are eight States in the North-Eastern Region. They are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. All these States have an immense potential in food processing. They grow a wide variety of fruits round the year. These can be packaged as pulp and juice for marketing within the country and abroad.
