The Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Culture, Shri S. Jaipal Reddy has condoled the demise of the noted cartoonist and columnist O. V. Vijayan who passed away yesterday. In his message Shri Reddy said “I am shocked to learn about the passing away of O. V. Vijayan. I deeply regret his demise and express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
Vijayan was a multi faceted personality-a novelist, a columnist and short story writer. But it was his extraordinary skill as a political cartoonist that won him the most acclaim. His novel style of cartooning using geometrical forms, provided a new dimension to this art. Padma Shri Vijayan made his own contribution to literature with his novel ‘Khasakinte Ithihasam’.
In his demise the nation has lost a veteran who would punch the people’s conscience with bold sketches”.
