The rate of inflation based upon the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers witnessed a marginal decrease of 0.20 percentage points during February 2005. It went down from 4.37% in January 2005 to 4.17% in February 2005. In February 2004, the inflation rate was 4.13 %.
The All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) for February 2005 (base 1982-100) also went down by one point to stand at 525 (five hundred twenty five) points.
The Rise/Fall in index varied from centre to centre. In 33 centres, the index decreased between 1 to 15 points and in 13 centres it remained constant whereas in another 24 centres it recorded an increase of 1 to 10 points when compared to the previous month.
During the month, Kanpur centre experienced the maximum increase of 10 points. The increase is mainly due to rise in prices of Goat Meat, Milk, Tea, Vegetables and Fruits. Rangpara - Tezpur Centre experienced a maximum decrease of 15 points. The decrease is mainly due to the fall in prices of Rice, Arhar Dal, Onions, vegetables and fruits etc.
The index in respect of six main centres for February 2005 stood at the following level: - 1. Ahmedabad 505 4. Chennai 563 2. Bangalore 516 5. Delhi 633 3. Kolkata 565 6. Mumbai 621
