The Government has reconstituted the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR).
Prof. D.N. Tripathi, former Professor and Head of Department of Ancient History and Archaeology, Gorakhpur University will be its Chairman.
18 historians nominated by the Government are: Prof. Y. Subbarayalu, Prof. K.N. Panikkar, Prof. Shireen Moosvi, Prof. J.P. Mishra, Prof. Suraj Bhan, Prof. Rajat K. Ray, Dr. Imtiaz Ahmad, Prof. Barun De, Prof. Tamo Mibang, Prof. David Reid Syiemlieh, Prof. K. Paddayya, Prof. Maryam Dossal, Prof. Ashraf Wani, Prof. Indu Bange, Prof. Shahid Amin, Prof. D.N. Jha, Prof. Basudev Chatterjee, Prof. Sabyasachi Bhattacharya.
Besides, a representative the University Grants Commission; Directors General, Archaeological Survey of India, New Delhi and National Archives of India, New Delhi; Secretary, Department of Secondary & Higher Education (MHRD); Secretary, Department of Culture; Financial Adviser (MHRD); Director General, Archaeological Survey of India, Kolkata and Member Secretary, ICHR will be the other members of the Council.
The tenure of the Members will be for a period of three years.
