The Sports Authority of India (SAI) selects talented sportspersons from across the country and imparts them training in various games.

Under the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Sports Promotional Schemes, trainees are selected for participation in disciplines that are covered under the Olympic, Asian games and Commonwealth games. Sportspersons with disability who are competing in open competitions with other sportspersons are admitted in SAI schemes.

There is provision for assistance to physically and mentally challenged persons who possess standards close to international standards prevalent in recognised tournaments in that sport, through the concerned National Sports Federations.

This information was given by the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Sunil Dutt in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
