The Union Cabinet has not accepted a recommendation made by the Expenditure Reforms Commission regarding discontinuation of passes issued to serving/retired railway employees.
The travel facility extended to railway employees is a matter of service condition. Travel facility is a universally recognized privilege which is given to employees of Transport Organizations not only in the Indian Railways but in all transport organizations, all over the world. This age-old practice owes its existence to the arduous duties required to be performed by the employees engaged in the running of the trains all the 24 hours of the day.
