The Union Minister of State for Shipping Road Transport and Highways, Shri K.H. Muniyappa reviewed the progress of Central Road Fund (CRF) works in Uttar Pradesh in a meeting with state government officials, in Lucknow today. He also inspected the 13 road repair and widening works that have been sanctioned under the CRF in Sultanpur and Rae Bareily districts at a cost of Rs. 150 crore.
Addressing the officials, Shri Muniyappa expressed his displeasure at the slow pace of utilization of funds allocated to Uttar Pradesh by the Central Government out of CRF. He called upon the state Government to expedite the road works for timely utilization of the balance Rs.260 crore that is lying unspent. Shri Muniyappa also expressed his displeasure at the slow execution of CRF works in the two districts that he visited. He pointed out that the quality of work at some places was not up to the mark. The Minister directed the Lucknow based Regional Officer of the Ministry to visit the CRF works at least once a month to keep a check on the quality of work. On this occasion, the Minister announced that the Sultanpur-Rae Bareily State Highway would be repaired with CRF funds.
Later talking to media persons in Rae Bareily, Shri Muniyappa informed that four stretches have been identified for four-laning on BOT basis under NHDP Phase-III in the State of U.P. namely 42 km long Agra-Bharatpuar section of NH 11, 322 km long Moradabad-Sitapur-Lucknow section of NH 24, 152 km long Delhi to U.P./Uttaranchal border section of NH 58 and 106 km long Ghaziabad-Aligarh section of NH 91. Out of these the letter of acceptance has been issued for Meerut to Muzaffernagar section of NH 58 (79 km) and bids have been invited for Lucknow-Sitapur section of NH 24 (76 km), he said.
