railway set operating ratio target of 85 percent

The Railway Minister Shri Lalu Prasad has called upon the Railway officials to keep pace in order to achieve the operating ratio of 85 percent. Addressing a conference of Railway General Managers here recently, the Minister stated, “Against the budget estimate of 9 percent, we have registered an additional increase of 18 percent in our total income during the first two months of the year.” He further asked the officials to cut down general operating expenses and increase the income.

The Railway Minister also impressed upon the General Managers underlined that all zonal Railways are required to identify new through-put enhancement works like terminal improvement works, traffic facility, IT, electrification of sections and sidings, doubling etc. All zonal railways have to make out an Action Plan to complete such pending works and efforts should be made to complete most of these works by the end of this year, the Minister stated.
