The Railway Minister Shri Lalu Prasad has ordered today that a Committee, consisting of Executive Director Civil Engineering (General), Executive Director Finance (Stores), Executive Director (Railway Stores), should go into all aspects of working conditions of the gangmen working in Indian Railways and submit a report within a month. He directed that the committee should interact with the gangmen and try to ascertain their actual requirements. He was meeting the select gangmen of Delhi Division in his chamber today.

The Minister, while inspecting Patna-Jamalpur Section, was extremely impressed about the commitment and devotion of duty shown by the engineering gangmen. He particularly showed deep concern for the welfare of the gangmen who are engaged in arduous nature of work. The current duties of the gangmen involve maintenance of the railway track during acute winter and extreme hot weather conditions. In view of this, he felt that they must be properly equipped so that they are able to discharge their duties properly.

The Railways Minister personally enquired into the matter and the type of uniforms and other equipments being provided to the gangmen. He personally saw the type of uniforms, shoes supplied to them and enquired from them their requirements of the dresses and equipments so that they are able to discharge their duties properly. He desired that there must be qualitative and quantum improvement in the uniforms and other materials provided. Cost should not be a consideration for the same.

The gangmen felt overwhelmed with the concern shown by the Railway Minister and thanked him profusely for action taken by him to improve their working conditions.
