The Union Cabinet today approved the notification of Phase-II policy on FM Radio Broadcasting Services through Private Agencies. It also authorized the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to finalise Tender Documents, Letters of Intent, Grant of Permission Agreements and other relevant documents in accordance with the proposed Policy.
The cabinet also authorized the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to grant permission to private agencies in accordance with the proposed policy. The Cabinet approved in-principle strengthening of infrastructure and strengthening of the FM Radio Cell to ensure compliance with the Policy and conditions of permission.
This decision will lead to:
(i) Expansion of FM radio network.
(ii) Radio programmes with superior quality of fidelity and reception and generation of programmes with local content and relevance.
(iii) Fillip to broadcasting and encouragement of local talent.
(iv) Generation of employment
(v) Transparent procedure for grant of permission
(vi) Generation of revenue for the Government.
In July, 1999, the Cabinet had approved the Phase-I Policy for FM Radio Broadcasting Services through private Agencies.
