The Union Minister of Textiles, Shri Shankersinh Vaghela launched the website www.indianfasiononline.net in the capital today. The INDIAN FASHION ON-LINE aims at demonstrating the efficiency of innovative technologies in overcoming the main obstacles to broad adoption of B2C e-commerce by fashion SME retailers, Small Handicraft Producers, their business partners and consumers. It aims at systematic benchmarking and the deployment of selected pilots. The obstacles in this regard are the size & fit problem (related to customers body size and shape) and the product description problem (fabric colour, garment style).
Ten pilots will be deployed in ten different States, implementing novel Internet technologies for clothing products description. Furthermore, a portal will be developed supporting & encouraging SMEs to adopt B2C e-commerce.
Representatives in different regions with pronounced presence of Textile-Clothing, Handicraft SMEs will monitor the progress of the project, either directly (as members), or through their contacts regionally. The portal shall be a platform for online trading also. The handicrafts and apparel producers can directly join the online Endeavour as members and upload their products with descriptions etc for getting orders for domestic and global market through this portal.
Shri Vaghela also inaugurated a Workshop on the Role of Innovative Marketing, Modern Design and Technology in International Handicrafts Markets. The Workshop was on the use of IT for promotion and work of handicrafts as explained by Shri Kailash Rawal, Country Head, Hong Kong Telecom. The seminar also dealt at length on the importance of creating Producers Company, Cooperatives & private public participation for better marketing of handicrafts.
A few Shilpa Gurus like Shri Monto Chandra Das from North-East, Smt. Rehana Begum from Lucknow and Shri Neelakantachar from Bangalore spoke on the occasion about their experiences on designing and marketing crafts.
