Shri Dayanidhi Maran, Minister of Communications & Information Technology will leave for San Francisco (USA) on six-day tour tomorrow to promote and project India as a strategic hub for manufacturing, marketing, R&D and Services. During his visit Shri Maran would pitch for major international investments in Hardware manufacturing sector with a special focus on creating more and more jobs.

In San Francisco Shri Dayanidhi Maran would be meeting Dr. Craig Barrett, Chairman of Intel and handover a letter of Dr. Manmohan Singh, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India regarding setting up of Intel’s ATM facility in India and impress upon Intel as to the benefits that would accrue to Intel in the event of their setting up their Advance Test Manufacturing facility in India.


During his visit, Mr. Maran would also have interactions with Mr. Hong Liang Lu, Chairman, CEO & President, UT Starcom, Mr. John Chambers, CEO, Cisco, Dr. Hector Ruiz, CEO & Chairman of the Board of M/s. AMD, Mr. Craig London, Executive Vice President of M/s. Solectron, Mr. Kenneth Juster, former US Under Secretary of Commerce and presently Executive Vice President of a leading CRM Company based in San Francisco and Mr. Kenneth L. Scroeder, CEO, KLA-Tencor.


The Minister is also scheduled to meet Dr. Vincent G. Cerf, Chairman, Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and numbers (ICANN) to discuss and promote efficiency in routing internet traffic within the country as a sequel to the launch of .IN domain and other related issues.


During his visit Shri Maran will also discussions with M/s. IBM , Applied Materials (world’s largest Semiconductor fab Equipment Company) to explore the possibility of setting up of a State-of-the-art 90nm fab in India. His itinerary among others includes meeting with M/s. Flextronics which has made significant investments in off-shore development in India.


Shri Maran will also have an interactive session and roundtable with leading venture capitalists in the USA. He will make a presentation on India’s strengths in the telecom and IT sectors with a view to getting high quality venture capital investments in to the country. Shri Maran will also be presenting to the investors the recent policy initiatives, incentives and reforms taken by his Ministry to make India a global hub for manufacturing and Services.
