As per the provisional figures available for the month may 2005, Indian Railways loaded 55.23 million tonnes of revenue earning freight, as against 48.79 million tonnes during the same period last year, i.e. 2004-05.
The cumulative target of revenue earning freight loading for the period upto May 2005 was 102.43 million tonnes. As against this performance up to May during the current year has been order of 107.55 million tonnes, thereby showing an increase in volume of traffic loaded by the Indian Railways. During the same period last year, the figures showed loading of revenue earning freight to the extent of 94.38 million tonnes.
