dayanidhi maran to receive young global leader award at the maiden summit in switzerland

In his continued efforts to promote India as a strategic hub for telecommunication equipment manufacturing and R&D, the Minister for Communications & Information Technology, Shri Dayanidhi Maran will be visiting Sweden and Finland between 28th June and 1st July, 2005. During his visit, Shri Maran's meetings and discussions will be in furtherance of major international investments in telecomm Hardware manufacturing sector with a special focus on creating more jobs. The Minister will push Indian Telecom Hardware Manufacturing Sector to gain momentum as also attract the foreign telecom equipment manufacturers to set up their ancillary units/ manufacturing facilities in India. Shri Maran will leave for Switzerland on Sunday.

Earlier on 27th June, 2005 he will visit Zermatt (Switzerland) to participate in the Leadership Session of the Young Global Leaders Summit where he will receive the Young Global Leader Award. Shri Dayanidhi Maran will address the maiden summit of the Young Global Leaders at the invitation of “World Economic Forum” and share experiences and reflect on the type of leadership required to address global challenges in the year 2020. Shri Maran is one of the few select Indians who have been selected as a Young Global Leader by a committee chaired by Her Majesty Queen Rania of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

While in Sweden and Finland, Shri Maran will hold bilateral talks with Ms. Ulrica Messing, Swedish Minister of Communications and Regional Policy and Ms. Leena Luhtanen, Minister of Transport and Communications, Finland to prepare strong grounds for facilitating closer cooperation between Indian and these countries in the field of ICT. He will also visit the Ericsson and Nokia factories in these countries. He will also interact with Mr. Antti Pippo, Founder, and Chairman of the Board of Elcoteq Network Corporation, President Nokia, Mr. Pekka-Ala Pietila and Mr. Carl Henric Svanberg, Ericsson Worldwide CEO.
