The Government has advised farmers to use improved varieties of Soybean. Agricultural experts say that seeds should be treated with fungicides (Three grams Thiram and Carbendazim in 2:1 proportion per One kg seed) followed by biofertilizers (Rhizobium and PSB/PSM cultures).

Use of balanced fertilization (NPKS-20: 60-80:20:20 kg/ha) through integrated approach. Use only germination test confirmed seed for planting to ensure optimum plant stand. For this test germination by sowing 100 seeds in a place in your back yard and adopt suitable seed rate accordingly.

The farm experts have advised to complete the sowing in major command area by last week of June. In case of delayed planting on account of delay in onset of monsoon, the seed rate to be enhanced to 1.25 times and normal recommended planting distance (45 cm row to row) should be brought down to 30 cm.

Wherever the possibility of taking rabi crop is bleak, farm experts advise that the pigenonpea may be intercropped with soybean. For rest of the situations, maize, sorghum and finger millet are the appropriate intercrops.

Control weeds either by hand weeding or use of chemical weedicides (pre-plant incorporation (Fluchloralin and Trifluralin) pre-emergence (Alachlor, Clomazone, Pendimethalin, Metolachlor) and post emergence (Imazethapyr, Quizalofop ethyl) herbicides).
