The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy today met the Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Thiru T. R. Baalu in connection with the progress of various national highway development projects being implemented in Andhra Pradesh.
Thiru Baalu informed Dr. Reddy that 4-laning of Hyderabad Vijayawada section of NH 9 would be taken up on priority basis under the National Highways Development Project Phase III. The preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this section is being taken up. Preparation of DPR for Cuddapah-Mydukur-Kurnool, Hyderabad-Yadgiri, Tirupati-Tiruthani and Vijayawada-Machhilipatnam sections is also being taken up. Thiru Baalu further informed CM, Andhra Pradesh that nearly 55 proposals for Central Road Fund works for improvement of roads in the State at a cost of Rs. 134 crore are under examination for sanction.
Thiru Baalu also requested for support of Andhra Pradesh Government to expedite land acquisition and shifting of utilities on the sections of North-South Corridor that pass through the State. The National Highways Authority of India would shortly award 4-laning works on these sections, Dr. Reddy was informed.
