chairman railway board orders suspension of three senior railway officials

The Chairman, Railway Board, has ordered immediate suspension of the Divisional Engineer , Assistant Engineer and the Sr. Section Engineer of the Ratlam Division, Western Railway. This follows the derailment of the 489 Chittaurgarh – Mhow Passenger train yesterday in which two persons lost their lives and seventeen sustained injuries.

At a review meeting urgently convened here today, the Minister of Railways Shri. Lalu Prasad took stock of the situation and viewed the entire incident very seriously. He expressed his concern at the number of accidents taking place recently. He ordered immediate steps to be taken to rectify the situation.

In this connection, a massive Safety Drive has been launched with immediate effect on the Indian Railways with a view to tone up the maintenance of assets like the track, bridges, coaches, locomotives and wagons in order to minimize the incidence of accidents particularly to passenger trains.
