CBI Arrests Income-Tax officer for accepting bribe

The CBI has arrested an Income Tax Officer and Sr. Tax Assistant both from Ward 26(4) Vikas Bhawan, ITO, New Delhi for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.23000/- from complainant.

The complainant had filed his Income Tax Return for assessment year 2004-05 on 10.09.2004 along with necessary documents and had claimed refund of Rs. 1,85,343/-. The complainant had also sent a letter to the Commissioner, Income Tax requesting for early refund of amount due to him. When the complainant visited the office of Income Tax one official of Ward 26(4) told him that without paying bribe this case will not be settled by the ITO. The same day, he also took the complainant to the Income Tax Officer who told him that he will not get his refund without paying bribe and also threatened him that in case bribe is not paid, he will put up the case in scrutiny.

CBI laid a trap and accused Income Tax Officer and Sr. Tax Assistant were caught red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe from the complainant. Both the accused will produced in the designated court Delhi, tomorrow.
