CBI arrests an Assistant Malaria Inspector accepting bribe

Continuing its fight against corruption, CBI today caught red-handed an Assistant Malaria Inspector of MCD, Delhi posted at the office the Medical Officer, MCD Dispensary, Madanpur Khadar, Sarita Vihar, Delhi while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.400/- from the proprietor of a workshop-cum-car garage. The accused official has been taken into custody by CBI and his residence and office are being searched.

The arrested official used to extort money from the nearby shops, Restaurants and Commercial establishments. He used to threaten that unless the money was paid, he would book the owners of these establishments by issuing challans under the MCD Act,1957. He had once booked the complainant on the 13th of May,2005 u/s 3/11/461 of MCD Act.1957 and the complainant had to deposit Rs.700/- in the court. In the last few days, the MCD official was demanding Rs.1,000/- from the complainant and threatened that unless the amount was paid, he would once again book the complainant. On the complaint of the complainant, CBI laid trap and the accused was arrested.

The Anti-Corruption Branch of CBI yesterday arrested an Income Tax Officer and a Senior Tax Assistant posted at Vikas Bhawan, Delhi for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.23,000/- for settling the income tax refund case of the complainant for Rs.1,85,343/- for the assessment year 2004-2005. During search at the residence of accused Senior Tax Assistant, cash worth Rs.55,000/-, documents relating to two plots in Pitampura Delhi; bank balance of Rs.10 lakh; bonds of Rs.1.5 lakh and jewellery worth Rs.75,000/- were recovered. He was also found in possession of a Maruti Car.

Both the accused , the ITO and the Sr.Tax Assistant were produced today before the designated court, Delhi and were remanded to judicial custody.
