The Exception Report for February-March 2005 of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on projects costing Rs.100 crore and above, states that 25 Telecom Projects which earlier did not have the date of commissioning, have now been assigned completion dates. 18 projects belong to the BSNL, 6 MTNL and 1 DOT. As of now, no problem is reported in any of these projects under the Telecom Sector and are expected to be completed by the assigned date.
The Exception Report provides current status on 327 Central Sector projects, including 44 mega projects each costing Rs.1000 crore and above. The remaining 283 belong to the major projects category costing Rs.100 crore to Rs.1000 crore. The total anticipated cost of these projects as on date of the report was, Rs.245976.81 crore against the original sanctioned cost of Rs.225741.32 crore. The cost overrun experienced in these projects so far amounts to 9 per cent. The expenditure incurred so far on these totals Rs.96032.91 crore i.e. 39 per cent of the total anticipated cost.
Of the total projects, 15 are running ahead of schedule, 64 on schedule, 125 delayed, 85 without new dates of commissioning and the remaining 13, originally did not have date of commissioning.
58 projects i.e.36 in Road Transport, 7 each in Power and Railways, 5 in Petroleum and one each in Steel, Fertilizer and Coal Sectors have reported additional delays ranging upto 36 months over the completion dates stated in the preceding report.
