To enhance participation of women in the nations economy, the Directorate General of Employment and Training under the Ministry of Labour and Employment is providing vocational training facilities for women. Vocational training is provided to them in Architectural Draughtsman-ship, Computer Operator & Programming Assistant, Desk Top Publishing, Dress Making, Secretarial Practice (English), Hair & Skin Care, Stenography (Hindi), Preservation of Fruits & Vegetables, Electronic Mechanic and Instrument Mechanic etc.
For this purpose the Ministry of Labour and Employment has set up ten Regional Vocational Training Institutes (RVTIs) for Women in Mumbai, Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, Hisar, Kolkata, Tura (Meghalaya), Allahabad, Indore, Vadodara & Jaipur and a National Vocational Training Institute for Women (NVTI) at Noida (Uttar Pradesh). These institutes organize various skill training programmes, and at the end of training, examination is conducted by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) in basic and advance skill levels. These institutes organize various short-term courses and some of these also conduct instructor-training courses.
Admission for basic skill courses of duration of 1-2 years is open and girls/women who have passed 10th or 12th standard can seek admission in the above said institutes. Admission Notices have already been published. The last date for submission of application is 22nd July, 2005. Women/girls can take advantage of the training facilities set up by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in the above mentionede cities.
