The Addl. Sessions Judge, Fast Track Court, Jamshedpur has
convicted Dhirender @ Pappu and Narender @ Pandit u/s 302/34
IPC and 27 Arms Act for the murder of Shri Nirmal Mahato,
the then President of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha at Jamshedpur
in broad daylight on 8.8.87. In the incident, Sh. Suraj Mandal,
then MLA of JMM was also injured. The case was first registered
at PS Bistupur, Jamshedpur and was later entrusted to CBI.
After thorough investigation, CBI had filed chargesheet only
against accused Birender Singh while two others Dhirender
Singh @ Pappu and Narender Singh @ Pandit were shown as absconders.
After trial, accused Birender Singh was sentenced to life
imprisonment in February, 2001. Later, in the year 2000 and
2002, the absconding accused were arrested and brought to
trial. The Addl. Sessions Judge found the remaining two accused
guilty of murder on 6.7.2005 and convicted them yesterday.
The sentence against these two convicted persons will be pronounced
on 14.7.05.
