The overall flood situation in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir has improved. The Union Home Secretary, Shri V.K.Duggal reviewed the situation here today with all the concerned Ministries and Departments.
In Gujarat, the situation has improved considerably. Traffic on the Expressway and national highways has been restored. Air traffic is normal and rail traffic is likely to be fully restored by the 18th of this month. 11 Air Force helicopters and all the 10 columns of the Army have been derequisitioned. 750 CRPF personnel deployed for rescue and relief operations have also been derequisitioned. The Centre has already released a sum of rupees 92.25 crore to the State.
In Madhya Pradesh, the situation has improved substantially except in Damoh and Panna districts. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is working for restoration of road links. 4 Army columns, 15 motor boats and 4 Air Force helicopters have been deployed for rescue and relief work in Damoh and Panna districts. The Centre has released 95.35 crore rupees to the State.
In Himachal Pradesh, the water level in all rivers and tributaries is receding now. The areas of concern in the State are evacuation of stranded people including foreign tourists and transportation of peas and apple from inaccessible areas.3 helicopters have been provided to the State Government for evacuation of stranded people and air-lifting of peas. The Centre has released 37.76 crore rupees to the State.
In Jammu & Kashmir, the weather was clear yesterday. The stranded people at Kathua have been evacuated. The Ministry of Defence is in touch with the State Government for extending necessary assistance.
The Centre is in constant touch with the State Governments and all possible assistance is being provided.
