Shri Sudeep Kumar Banerjee, IAS (MP: 1971) has taken over as the new Secretary, Department of Secondary and Higher Education in the Ministry of Human Resource Development. He succeeds Shri B.S. Baswan, who superannuated yesterday. Shri Banerjee was earlier Additional Secretary in MHRD.
In his administrative career spanning over three decades, Shri Banerjee has held several important posts both at the Centre and in the State of Madhya Pradesh such as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Joint Secretary and Financial Advisor, Ministry of HRD, Joint Secretary (Adult Education) and Director General, National Literacy Mission, Ministry of HRD and Principal Secretary in Finance, Education, Forest and Tribal Welfare in the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
An author of four books, three collections of poems and one play, Shri Banerjee has won two National Awards- Shamsher Award and Bhavani Prasad Mishra Award, both for poetry. He has been on the board of several institutions connected with education including on the first governing body of International Literacy Institute, Philadelphia.
