Shri J.P.Batra (IRTS-69) took over charge as Chairman, Railway Board (CRB) from the outgoing Chairman Shri R.K.Singh who retired, here today. Shri Batra was working as General Manager, East Central Railways, Hajipur from March, 2005 before joining as CRB.
He has earlier worked in various capacity as CFTM & CSO in Western Railway (July,02 Oct,1998), Vice Principal, Railway Staff, Vadodara ( May,98 - July,99), Chief Operations Manager & Chief Freight Traffic Manager, South Eastern Railway, Kolkata (July,99 - July,02).
From July, 2002 to July 2004 he worked as Add. General Manager, East Central Railway, Hajipur, Addl. General Manager, N.E.Railway and OSD East Coast Railway, Bhubneshwar. After that he worked as Addl. Member (Tourism & Catering) Railway Board (May,04 - July,04), General Manager, North Eastern Railway, Gorakhpur (July,04 Feb,05).
During his tenure as General Manager, North Eastern Railway, Gorkhpur, he achieved 53% reduction in accidents and for the first time in the history of N.E.Railway, awarded Railway Ministers Engineering Shield for best performance. While working as Addl. Member, Railway Board, he introduced a new tourist service a Decan-Odissy in Maharashtra, similar to Palace of Wheels in Rajasthan.
Prior to joining Indian Railways on 01-12-1969, Shri Batra was Granted Short Service Commission in Indian Army, Corps of Signal as 2nd Lt, in August, 1967 and released from Army as Captain in 1972. He took part in 1971 Indo-Pak war.
Shri S.B.Ghosh Dastidar (IRTS 69) also took over as Member Traffic, Railway Board and Ex-Officio Secretary to Government of India, here today. He was General Manager, Central Railway prior to this assignment.
