Lok Sabha

The Ministry of Rural Development is implementing Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) as a self employment scheme with the objective to bring the assisted poor families (Swarozgaris) above the poverty line. This objective is to be achieved by inter-alia organizing the rural poor into Self Help Groups (SHGs) through a process of social mobilization, their training and capacity building and provision of income-generating assets through a mix of bank credit and government subsidy. The assisted families (Swarozgaris) may be individuals or groups (Self Help Groups). However, emphasis is on the group approach.

A statement showing, state wise individual swarozgaris assisted under the scheme since its inception i.e., April, 1999 and upto June, 2005 is annexed.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Rural Development, Smt. Suryakanta Patil in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
