The Minister of State (Independent charge) for Overseas Indian Affairs, Shri Jagdish Tytler told the Rajya Sabha today that 4457 recruiting agencies have been registered under the provisions of the Emigration Act, 1983. The state-wise information is as follows: Delhi-864, Uttaranchal-3, Kerala-372, Bihar-2, Orissa-8, West Bengal-22, Uttar Pradesh-45, Rajasthan-55, Madhya Pradesh-9, Assam-1, Mizoram-2, Andhra Pradesh-124, Tamil Nadu-415, Maharashtra-2060, Gujarat-40, Chandigarh-97, Punjab-191, Haryana-19, Himachal Pradesh-6, J&K-7, Karnataka-69, Goa-43 and Pondicherry-3.
Shri Tytler further told that the Government has received complaints against some of these recruiting agencies. 100 complaints have been received against the recruiting agencies since January, 2004 to till date (upto 25.07.2005). As a follow-up action, registration certificate of 44 recruiting agencies were suspended and 14 were cancelled.
